After 3 years, we were finally back with our famous Christmas lunch. 100 participants enjoyed the traditional Danish Christmas food, the traditional Danish “Pakkeleg”, a number of fun activities organized by their colleagues, and the overall good mood during the party. The last guests left the building in a very good condition around 2:00am.
As a substitute for the cancelled Christmas Lunch 2021, an Easter party was held. Before the dinner, many of the party guests participated in the 1st AU-FOOD Egglympic Games – Egg Hunt, Egg Run, and Protect the Egg – which were ultimately won by the team Bad Hare Day (Mario, Laura, Mingwei, Negin, Natacha, and Thomas). After the dinner, a live band provided the right sound for a hoppin’ good time.
In March, the Staff Club organized the 2nd Pub Quiz in the AU-FOOD canteen. The event was hosted by the previous Quiz Champions Dill-Doughs (Janice, Signe, Frank, and Tjark), and nine teams participated in the five rounds of food-related questions. In the end, the team Meatriarchy won in a close call with 23 of 51 possible points before Canteen Heroes (22/51) and Butt-Horns (21/51). Congratulations to Tobias, Amanda, Abraham, and Jordan!
Despite the cancellation of the Christmas party, we could still hand out the ordered Christmas food to our colleagues for some Christmas spirit during the lunch break. Later, we served Gløgg and risalamande outside, so that staff could hygge and collect their Christmas presents before going on Christmas vacation.
In November, we organized another Wine Tasting for 30 happy participants, which was held by our local Wine Expert Janice, a certified Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) educator, judge for international wine challenges, and one of a handful of people in Denmark currently enrolled in the Master of Wine study programme. Our participants tasted six wines that showcase the range of possibilities when it comes to terroir and winemaking.
In April, the Staff Club arranged a grafting course together with Martin Jensen as instructor, who has many years of experience in this field, and Kim from Årslev was very supportive in providing the branches and rootstocks for us. Our participants could make their own apple, pear, cherry and plum trees to take home.
In March, we were happy to offer two great activities to colleagues. We started with an inspiring online lecture given by Chris MacDonald on well-being and motivation, which was a perfect fit for these rough lockdown times.
Later we held the 1st AU FOOD Pub Quiz online using a cyberspace offered by Gather.Town. Seven teams participated and were challenged by Quizmaster Norbert. The questions were tough, but our candidates were tougher. In the end, the team Dill-Doughs won superiorly with 19 of 33 possible points. Congratulations to Janice, Frank and Signe!
After we had to cancel or postpone many of our planned activities due to COVID19, we decided to conduct the long expected wine tasting online via Zoom. It was held by our local wine expert Janice, who is a certified Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) educator and one of a handful of people in Denmark with a WSET Level 4 Diploma (and the only one in Denmark who has achieved a Distinction level).
This workshop was focused on the notion of wine quality. Why do some wines cost 50 kr. while others cost 5000 kr.? What does quality mean when it comes to wine, and how can we have an objective discussion about it with someone else? In this interactive session, the participants tasted four wines that showcased the range of possibilities when it comes of grape-growing and winemaking, and walked away with their own definition of wine quality.
